Material #14: Feedback loops
A short “material” interpretation from me this week.
We are inextricably bound by the physical materiality of the spaces that we move through. We shape them, they shape us, back and forth through time: the water we swim in, the streets where we walk, the homes where we live.
Indigenous peoples have long known this, most others of us have long lost touch, and exploiting the capacity to mould surroundings to our own desires - or sometimes to our own financial gain - miss the feedback loops between the two, between us and place, and the fact that one person’s reshaping can displace another’s place altogether, deepening disconnection.

Through 2024, It’s Material is sharing one use of the word “material” each week, on Tuesdays.
